A used PS5 is one of the safer electronics buys on Marktplaats, because the console either works or it clearly doesn't, and you can test it in ten minutes. Pay attention to which model you're getting, test the HDMI port and the controller, and never pay for a console you haven't seen running.
There are four versions on the market. The original 2020 PS5 (model numbers starting with CFI-10, CFI-11 and CFI-12) is the big one with the tall white side panels, sold as a disc edition and a cheaper digital edition. The Slim (CFI-20xx) is smaller and lighter and has a detachable disc drive, so a digital Slim can get a drive added later. The PS5 Pro (CFI-70xx) has no disc drive by default and costs the most.
The model number is on a sticker on the back or bottom and on the box. Ask for a photo of it. A seller who writes 'PS5' without saying disc or digital usually has the digital one, because disc owners mention it.
Ask the seller to have it connected to a TV when you arrive. If that isn't possible, meet somewhere you can plug it in, or bring a portable monitor. A console that 'worked last week' but can't be shown is a gamble.
Let it run a game for at least five minutes. The fan should hum quietly. A loud whine, a rattle or a sudden shutdown points to dust, a failing fan or overheating.
The DualSense is the weak point. Open a game or the settings menu and let go of both sticks: if the cursor or camera keeps moving on its own, that's stick drift. Press both triggers fully to feel the resistance, test every button, and check that the touchpad clicks.
A worn DualSense lasts noticeably shorter than a new one. If the listing includes two controllers, test both, because a second controller in poor shape is worth almost nothing. A third-party controller in the bundle often isn't worth counting either.
Digital games belong to the seller's PlayStation account, not to the console. A listing that says 'with 20 games' on a digital edition usually means the games disappear when the seller signs out. Only physical discs transfer with the console.
Ask the seller to sign out of their account and do a factory reset in front of you, or check it has already been done. If their account stays on as primary console, you could end up with games you don't own disappearing later.
Box-only listings ('alleen doos' or 'lege doos') are sometimes worded to look like a console sale at a too-good price. Read the description to the end. Also skip anyone who wants a deposit before you see the console or offers to ship via an unknown courier. Pay on the spot after testing, by bank transfer or cash.
Many PS5s come bundled with games, a second controller or a charging dock, and those bundles often price the extras at zero. Compare the console price alone first. On vindje.com you can type something like 'PS5 disc edition with two controllers, under 350 euro, near Utrecht' and skip the box-only listings.
| Item | Typical asking price |
|---|---|
| PS5 original, disc edition (2020-2022) | EUR 250-330 |
| PS5 original, digital edition | EUR 200-260 |
| PS5 Slim, disc edition | EUR 300-380 |
| PS5 Pro | EUR 500-650 |
| DualSense controller, working | EUR 35-50 |

Yes, if you see it running a game on a TV before paying and the seller removes their account. Most problems (HDMI port, stick drift, fan noise) show up within ten minutes of testing.
Sony can restrict accounts and, in rare cases, consoles. It's uncommon, but a console that refuses to connect to the PlayStation Network after a reset is a reason to walk away.
No. Digital games stay on the seller's account. Only physical game discs come with the console.
It's smaller and quieter in most cases, with the same performance. The original disc edition is often the better deal on the used market.
